Lignumvitae  Guajacum sanctum

This hard-wood, slow-growing tree is one that the early inhabitants of the Caribbean put to many good uses.  A climax species of dry coastal forests, it makes a tremendous specimen tree.   The photo at right shows the seed pods, which have cheerful shapes and eye-catching color.

Below left is a photo of the fragrant flowers, which are a rare shade of blue.  The photo at right shows a tree in the landscape.  This one is about 7' tall, and sprawls in an appealing way.

The branching of the lignum vitae is quite intriguing.
