Saw palmetto is an under story palm that may get up to
ten feet high or so, eventually, but most commonly, the trunks tends droop
and crawl along the ground.
Saw palmetto gets it name from the spines along the stem
of the frond.
Here are some of the silvery form, just inside our front
entry.
At right is a grouping planted in front of our office.
Plant some as part of an under story barrier that will
discourage anyone from casually passing through.
Here is an effect that could not have been planned: the
foliage of the saw palmetto matches perfectly the color of the lichens on
the trunk of the black ironwood.
